#aacr19: Physicist vs. physician: Digitizing clinical assessment and using it for evidence-based prediction of outcomes

Posted on March 31, 2019 by kuhnadmin

Presenters: Peter Kuhn, PhD and Jorge Nieva, MD. University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA Abstract: The Current Status of Tumor BiomarkersThe past decade has seen tremendous advances in cancer care driven largely by better understanding of cancer genetics and biology. Characterization of the DNA changes driving cancer formation is now routine and it seems …

#aacr19: Deconvoluting Tumor Heterogeneity Using Single-Cell Genomics

Posted on March 29, 2019 by kuhnadmin

Presenter James B. Hicks, PhD. University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA Description Cancer is a genetic disease that evolves over time and in response to treatment, whether in model systems or in the setting of human disease. It is therefore imperative to create tools to assess genomic and transcriptomic complexity in order to understand …

#AACR19: Morphologic and genomic characterization of circulating tumor cells in patients with ERBB2 mutant HER2 non-amplified metastatic breast cancer treated with neratinib

Posted on March 29, 2019 by kuhnadmin

USC scientists Dr. Stephanie Shishido will present results from a small cohort study from a clinical trial in which metastatic breast cancer patients with a rare form of the disease (ERBB2 mutated, HER2 non-amplified) were treated with the combination of Neratinib and Fulvestrant. This work focuses on the use of a blood sample for a …

Posted @withrepost • @michelsonphilanthropies Dr. Gary K. Michelson recently visited the USC Michelson Center for Convergent Bioscience to celebrate its fifth anniversary.

The center, which leads research into cancer, cardiovascular disease, and other conditions, received a founding gift of $50 million from @alya.michelson and Dr. Michelson when it opened in 2017.

The Center houses state-of-the-art instrumentation and conducts groundbreaking work in nanofabrication, cryo-EM, and magnetic resonance imaging.
Cheers from CSI-Cancer! We had a lot to be proud Cheers from CSI-Cancer!

We had a lot to be proud of this year and now ready for 2023!
Our team, Sonia Setayesh, Nikki Higa and Dr. Steph Our team, Sonia Setayesh, Nikki Higa and Dr. Stephanie Shishido, had an amazing time at San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium presenting their poster, “Multianalyte liquid biopsy to aid the diagnostic work up of breast cancer.”

In partnership with Neighborhood Academic Initiati In partnership with Neighborhood Academic Initiative (NAI) this semester, the CURE Research Exploration And Career Help (REACH) program is leading a five-session workshop on “Hallmarks of Cancer” to 110 local high school students. These CURE students are leading Saturday morning sessions on different topics of cancer and the workshop will end with group research presentations this coming weekend.

We’re proud of the CURE students for their commitment to share their knowledge of cancer research and guide an amazing group of high school students.

@bcrfcure ‘s Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Dorraya El-Ashry spoke with @verywellhealth about liquid biopsy’s potential in breast cancer: “Liquid biopsies [give] a window into additional information that you don’t get from traditional screening or biopsy.” This year WCRF is proud to support the work of two BCRF investigators researching liquid biopsy: Drs. Peter Kuhn and James Hicks of @uscmichelsoncsicancer. Tap the link in bio to read the piece.
We will continue our research to support all those We will continue our research to support all those affected with breast cancer. Thank you @bcrfcure @wcrfcure for supporting this important research!
